UCSF Police Deploy OHM Electric Bikes at University of California Campus
San Francisco, CA – UCSF Police Department has deployed OHM Electric Bikes in its daily operations around campus to evaluate the potential of using electric powered bicycles on campus. At the conclusion of the evaluation, UCSF will determine which duties are best suited for electric bikes.
“We are excited to work with UCSF to demonstrate how our products can increase efficiency and productivity.” said Michael DeVisser, co-founder of OHM Cycles. “OHM eBikes will allow officers to carry heavier loads and get to their destinations more quickly.”
UCSF Police will use the Sport model equipped with all-terrain components, 350W BionX motor and 37V 9.6Ah battery pack. Typical battery life is 3-5 hours with range of 20-50 miles per charge depending on the weight carried, tire pressure and terrain.
OHM Electric Bikes are specially designed for long range travel. UCSF is evaluating OHM Electric Bikes to learn how this technology can increase efficiency, productivity and improve service on campus.
Officers will be able to carry up to 55lbs (25kg) of equipment in the attached cargo bags or up to 100lbs (45kg) of equipment using a detachable commuting trailer. The ability to carry more equipment enables the officers to perform work that might otherwise require a return trip.
Training will be facilitated by Brett Thurber, our local dealer of The New Wheel. Training includes approximately 30 minutes of class time and 1 hour of riding time, during which officers are trained how to operate and maneuver the bikes with proper riding technique.
As UCSF is committed to using Green vehicles and reducing emissions from its gas powered vehicles and adding alternative transportation vehicles to the fleet, OHM Electric Bikes can become an integral part of the “green fleet”.
Clean Green Transportation
Expanding the bicycle network is an important step to support a clean, green and healthy mode of transportation. OHM bikes produce zero emissions during operation. Each Power pack consumes about one kilowatt-hour of energy while recharging.
