Revised battery packs, new Shimano drivetrains, and custom component packages make OHM’s hybrid e-bikes the perfect choice for eco-friendly commuters and recreational cyclists
VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA, September 22, 2008 – OHM Cycles will introduce its improved and refined 2009 product line of hybrid, electric-assist bicycles at the Interbike International Bicycle Expo, September 24‑26, at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The new OHM Cycles bikes are a comprehensive solution to eco-friendly mobility, says company president and co-founder Michael DeVisser.
OHM electric bicycles will be available for test ride at Interbike Outdoor Demo, booth #D2057 on September 22-23. Then view indoor display, booth #2859, at the Interbike Bicycle Expo, September 24-26. Editors and interested dealers are encouraged to stop by the booth and see the bikes up close.
Since their debut in 2007, OHM Cycles electric-assist bikes have allowed riders to climb hills faster and ride longer – thanks to an integrated BionX intelligent energy management system. Through a combination of sensors and rider-supplied power, OHM electric bicycles respond to the way the rider pedals and provide a smooth natural sensation.
“OHM is committed to developing safe, high-quality, power-assist bicycles,” explained DeVisser. “We feel that OHM’s new Urban and Sport electric bicycles will help re-define personal mobility. We have worked closely with BionX and Molicel to integrate functionality and innovative design, resulting in a package with excellent performance.”
For 2009, OHM Cycles will offer four models, the XU450 and XU700 urban electric bikes, and the XS700 and XS750 sport models. Here’s what’s new for 2009:
Versatile, Improved Battery Pack Design
The city-friendly Urban XU450 will now feature a portable, Step-through battery pack design that utilizes an internal vibration resistant cartridge system, equipped with 28-volt/9-amp hour battery pack. The Urban XU450 is also available with Sport container with extended range 28-volt/12-amp hour battery pack.
Improved battery packs will also be standard on OHM’s 2009 Urban XU700, Sport XS700 and Sport XS750 models. Each will be equipped with the new Sport battery pack with convenient carrying handle – accommodating three different size batteries – 28-volt/12-amp hour, 38-volt/9-amp hour or 38-volt/12-amp hour battery configurations.
Most notably, all the new OHM battery packs allow for faster charging – three hours to charge at a 110/220 volt outlet – by means of Molicel© Advanced Battery Charger.
Revised Shimano Drivetrain
OHM Urban XU700, Sport XS700 and Sport XS750 will also benefit from new Shimano Deore drivetrains with RAPIDFIRE Plus shifters for easier shifting and 48T x 27T gearing to improve over-the-road performance.
New Cargo Rack
All four OHM electric bicycle models will come standard with the Topeak® Explorer. This bolt-on rack features a solid fender top, light mounts, and is compatible with Topeak’s Pannier and TrunkBag packs.
Clean, Green Transportation
Since OHM bicycles are electrically powered, they produce zero emissions during operation. Powered by Molicel© lithium-ion batteries, OHM bicycles typically take three hours to charge at a 110/220 volt outlet and consume about one kilowatt hour of energy while recharging. A rider can travel power-assisted for up to 148 km (90 miles) on one battery charge – four to five times more energy efficient than a motorcycle or scooter.
