Four years ago, upon retirement, Bill got the first OHM bike so we could still ride to all the wilder places we enjoy. Just before I retired I took my knee out at work and the result of that meant that I, too, got an OHM bike so that I could continue bike and keep up with Bill.

Soon we discovered that we can go farther, faster and over hilly terrain. That made cycling – and exercise – truly enjoyable day in and day out.

Kate and Bill enjoying a break during an evening bike ride.

It turned our lives around so much that we now count week long cycle journeys among the vacations and tours we do regularly. The bucket list began some years ago with wanting to cycle the Gulf Islands. We have now done five and look forward to more every year. We also boat and take the bikes on the boat to ride the territory wherever we dock.

Finally, and because the OHM bikes became part of our daily lives and daily exercise, we actually moved from our house atop a very long steep hill to a townhouse (down-sizing) that is next to dike trails near the Pitt River so that we can now go biking daily straight out of our garage – in all directions – over relatively flat trails in near wilderness settings. We can’t imagine life without our OHMs.”

How has the OHM bike changed YOUR life?

81 Years Old and Still Biking

Blog

81-year-old Jean Dion, on the first of four two-hour biking trips he takes every day.

Jean Dion is proof that we’re never too old to keep our bodies young.

While men half his age struggle to squeeze in the recommended 30 minutes a day for exercise, Jean commits to exercising 12 to 16 times than this amount – on a daily basis.

Jean bikes for six to eight hours a day, at least six days a week.

And he’s not an athlete, marathon runner, or former Ironman.

Jean is just a regular guy who wants to keep his weight down and his body in good shape for the rest of his life.

And he’s doing a darn good job, considering he just turned 81 in February!

Until August 2009, Jean used a regular bike, until it got to be too much for him to keep up. Rather than cut down his biking time or cut it out altogether, Jean decided to buy an electric bike to offer him some pedalling assistance while still letting him exercise.

He spent six months looking through e-bike models before finally settling on an OHM Sport XS700 electric bike that seemed to have all the makings he was looking for. He clocked 8,752 kilometres on it before trading it in January 2011 for a newer OHM model.

7,159 kilometres later, Jean has, to date, cycled a total of 15,911 km in 29 ½ months – or 539 km a month. He averages 20 to 30 km a day.

And he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

<a

He uses them as an incentive and looks forward to the few dollars he makes from each ride. “I am not cheap but I like making money – regardless how little it is.”

Jean uses the bike’s battery only when he needs it – for going up hills, getting the bike started, or carrying a heavy load. “Most of the time I carry 10 or 15 lbs, to as much as 100 lbs.”

“My OHM electric bike helped me to keep busy and maintain my exercise more efficiently,” Jean explains. “It has helped me to do my things on a day to day basis and a lot more enjoyable – without getting exhausted.”

How has the OHM bike changed YOUR life?

Blog
<guid

It has started changing my life already. I live in the Sierra Foothills 15 miles from Grass Valley, CA. It used to take me four hours to ride my bike to town, we have some steep hills, from where I live, I drop 1000 vert. feet in 2.5 miles, then have a 2000 foot climb in 12.5 miles.

On my new OHM I can do the ride now in a hour and twelve minutes and still have enough battery to get home the same route. Since getting an Ohm I have enrolled at UBI bike school, and I now drive much less. I have always loved bikes, and not enjoyed driving.

There are two reasons people in my area don’t ride bikes, one, the hills are steep, the grade up Bitney Springs Road can make the most avid bike rider cry, the other reason is cars, with the OHM bike we can make a difficult ride fun, and I plan on trying all my might to get more people to see this machine, try it and want one.

We need more people out on bikes in this area and the OHM is the answer. I am 51 years old and in good shape, the OHM keeps me in shape because it makes riding a bike fun, practical, and I still get a great workout.

This bike is a quality machine that makes it possible for me to ride an over four hour, 2000 foot climb in an hour and twelve minutes. I just love my new OHM.
