New & Improved OHM Urban XU700 and Sport XS750 Deliver the Ultimate in Green, Efficient Cycling

VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA– With e-bikes all the rage – nearly every major bike manufacturer has plugged into the market – OHM Cycles of Vancouver, B.C., continues to design and build the most efficient, integrated, best-performing electric-assist bikes on the market. To prove the point, OHM will showcase its all-new OHM Urban XU700 and OHM Sport XS750 models at Interbike 2010′s Outdoor Demo, September 20-21 at Boulder City, Nevada.

Both the Urban XU700 and the Sport XS750 are custom-designed e-bikes (also known as pedelecs) that use premium components for extra performance, comfort and convenience. In other words, clean, green, healthy modes of transportation.

Many advantages are designed into both models - A convenient quick-connect battery for easy recharging; a purpose-built aluminum frame with standard wheelbase for perfect balance and control; premium, lightweight components and front suspension for a responsive, comfortable ride; and integrated lighting, hydraulic disc brakes, a rear carry rack, and fenders.

There are, however, key difference between the two models: The Urban XU700 utilizes 700C wheels/tires, ideal for traversing city pavements. The rugged XS750 employs mountain-bike style 26-inch wheels and all-terrain tires. So, if dashing up gravel roads or riding easy single-track is your idea of fun, the XS750 would be an good option.

OHM hybrid e-bikes are similar to standard bikes, but energized by a BionX electric motor integrated into the rear wheel. The BionX motor, a brushless direct-current generative design, is capable of peak power output of 700 Watts. OHM’s proprietary, enclosed rechargeable lithium-ion battery is center-mounted for better weight distribution. Atop the handlebar, a micro-chipped control module coordinates human and e-power.

Both the Urban XU700 and Sport XS750 can be pedaled as a conventional bicycle or with the pedal assist. Riders take advantage of four levels of assist – 35, 75, 150, and 300 percent – which sends the rider racing up hills and around the city with ease. The OHM rechargeable lithium-ion battery delivers a range of 50 miles (80km).

Key specs for the OHM Urban XU700:

700C wheel size

350W motor (Torque 9/40 Nm)

37V 10Ah / 355Wh LiMn

VANCOUVER, B.C. – OHM Cycles recently introduced its 2010 line of electric-assist bicycles, once again improving the performance of the best “pedalectric” bikes on the market. For 2010, OHM Cycles will offer commuters and biking enthusiasts two models: the Urban XU700, and the Sport XS750. Each model delivers a comprehensive solution to eco-friendly transport, says company president and co-founder Michael DeVisser.

Since their debut in 2007, OHM Cycles electric-assist bikes have helped riders climb hills faster and ride longer – thanks to OHM’s revolutionary Intelligent Drive System that features an LCD command console, rechargeable battery and a rear-wheel motor. The Intelligent Drive System seamlessly combines a rider’s pedal power with that of an electric motor. Through a combination of sensors, rider-supplied power and intelligence, OHM bicycles respond to the way the rider pedals and provides a smooth, seamless sensation of added power.

The OHM Urban XU700 model is ideal for urban commuting and overall cycling fun. The XU700 features an aluminum frame, upright riding position, and front suspension. Power is delivered through a long-range 37V 10Ah Li-Mn Power pack, 350W auto-assist motor, and 27-speed Shimano Deore Drive.

The OHM Sport XS750 model is designed for all-terrain riding. The XS750 features an aluminum frame, dual air front suspension and suspension seat post. The drivetrain utilizes a high-powered 37V 10Ah Li-Mn Power pack, 350W auto-assist hub, and 27 speed Shimano Deore LX Drive.

Here’s a closer look at key features of the 2010 OHM Cycles e-bikes:

Multi-functional LCD command console

The OHM LCD command console puts e-power at your fingertips. The console features a multi-function meter that displays speed, remaining battery charge, and level of assistance or regeneration. Using the handlebar-mounted console, the rider can choose from four levels of power assist – 35, 75, 150, and 300 percent boost to the rider’s pedaling effort. The back-lit LCD screen is easy to read day or at night. And there’s an anti-theft alarm to protect your bike.

Powerful, Lightweight Electric Motor

The brushless electric motor is integrated into the rear wheel and is powered by an innovative Lithium Manganese battery that can propel the bike up to 20 mph with quick acceleration and superior hill climbing power. The OHM electric assist motor is lightweight and efficient. Moreover, the motor features a recharge function that can recharge the battery on the fly, while you ride. The regenerative braking system captures up to 10 percent of energy normally lost.

-

Advanced Battery Technology

The OHM Lithium Manganese rechargeable battery is easy to use, safe and built for extra range. Riders can travel up to 75 miles power-assisted on a single charge – and even longer distances if the rider uses the regeneration function and lower power levels.

The battery system includes a charger that recharges your battery in less than three hours. The battery can be charged right on the bike or riders can use OHM’s unique quick connect system to easily remove and recharge the battery pack.

Weatherproof and Reliable

OHM bicycles are designed to operate in a wide variety of climate conditions. All electronic components, including the control console, battery, charger and electric motor, are sealed to protect them from the environment.

Clean, Green Transportation

Since OHM bicycles are electrically powered, they produce zero emissions during operation. Powered by Lithium Manganese batteries, OHM bicycles typically take three hours to charge at a 110/220 volt outlet and consume about one kilowatt hour of energy while recharging. A rider can travel up to 120 km (75 miles) on one battery charge, consuming 0.052 kilowatt hours per mile on average – four to five times more energy efficient than a motorcycle or scooter.

About OHM Cycles Ltd.

Founded in 2005, OHM Cycles is an exciting new bike company with a unique design. Having a quality focus, OHM Cycles is committed to creating the finest electric-assist bicycles.

VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA – OHM Cycles has expanded its marketing efforts into Europe, looking to capitalize on the continent’s increasing consumer interest in power-assisted bicycles, announced OHM Cycles President Michael DeVisser.

“As electric power-assist bikes gain in popularity in North America, they are even more popular in Europe,” DeVisser said. “At a recent worldwide bike conference in Brussels, it was reported that one out of every 10 bicycles sold in Europe has power-assist . We’re looking to tap into that market.”

OHM has established dealers in Spain, Germany, Ireland, and Italy. Enthusiasm for the product in Europe mirrors the positive response OHM electric bikes have earned in the U.S. and Canada.

“This Spring-Summer 2009 is our first season selling OHM electric bikes,” said Luciano Cicloone,of CICLOONE, an E-bike distributor in Pianezza, Italy (outside Torino). “We chose OHM Cycles because of the quality of components and the high technology used. OHM electric bicycles are designed for very demanding customers, from which we are receiving very positive feedback both as performance and as a general satisfaction of the product.” www.cicloone.it

An OHM Cycles hybrid electric-assist bike is just like a standard bike, but one energized by an electric motor integrated into the rear wheel. An enclosed rechargeable lithium-ion power pack straddles the top tube. Atop the handlebar, a micro-chipped control module choreographs the symphony of human and e-power – automatically adding a pedaling boost. The more effort the rider gives, the more boost the electric motor provides.

OHM Cycles 2009 product line up includes five models: Urban XU450, XU500 and XU700 and Sport XS700 and XS750. The Urban models are ideal for in-city commuting, featuring a lightweight aluminum frame, front suspension, and upright position for a more comfortable ride. The Sport also utilizes high-performance components — plus a more powerful motor and all-terrain tires.
At the core of the OHM Cycles’ electric bikes is the BionX motor, a brushless direct current generative wheel motor capable of peak power output of 700 Watts (450 Watts for the 250 Watt series motor). The silent motor features a microprocessor that calculates rider thrust and compensates for the weakest leg to ensure a smooth ride. Range is 20-75 miles (32-120 km). OHM electric bikes have caught the attention of the mainstream media, too, with positive reviews in the Wall Street Journal, Wired magazine, AutoWeek and the Vancouver Sun.
Clean Green Transportation.
Expanding the bicycle network is an important step to support a clean, green and healthy mode of transportation. OHM electric bikes produce zero emissions during operation. Each Power pack consumes about one kilowatt-hour of energy while recharging.

VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA– Looking for an innovative, green mode of transport to get around your favorite metropolitan area – one that doesn’t involve a car the size of a shoe box, the belch of biodiesel, or bus fare? If so, you’re a candidate to climb aboard a hybrid electric-assist bike from OHM Cycles.

An OHM Cycles hybrid electric-assist bike is just like a standard bike, but one energized by an electric motor integrated into the rear wheel. An enclosed rechargeable lithium-ion power pack straddles the top tube. Atop the handlebar, a micro-chipped control module choreographs the symphony of human and e-power. The result? A bike that automatically adds a pedaling boost – the more grunt the rider gives, the more boost the electric motor provides.

“In many big cities of the world, electric-assist bicycles are common place, but in a very rudimentary form,” explained Michael DeVisser, president and founder of OHM Cycles Ltd., who lived in Asia and saw firsthand the potential of electric-assist bicycles as an efficient mode of city transportation. “We took the latest cycling technology and created what we feel is the ideal electric-powered bike for urban travel.”

OHM Cycles can be ridden as a conventional bicycle or with pedal assist from the intelligent drive system. With its lightweight components and customized power system, an OHM e-bike will send the rider racing up hills and around the city with ease. Range is 20-75 miles. OHM bikes have caught the attention of the mainstream media, too, with positive reviews in the Wall Street Journal, Wired magazine, AutoWeek and the Vancouver Sun.

At the core of the OHM Cycles’ bikes is the BionX motor, a brushless direct current generative wheel motor capable of peak power output of 700 Watts (450 Watts for the 250 Watt series motor). The silent motor features a microprocessor that calculates rider thrust and compensates for the weakest leg to ensure a smooth ride.

Key features of the BionX motor include:

Brushless and gearless design requiring no maintenance.

Four power modes, with the motor compensating pedaling power by 25 – 300 percent, depending on the power level selected.

Four generative modes – the battery can be recharged at four strength levels when riding, braking or going downhill.

Magnetic-field-drive technology works with no friction or wear inside the motor. In testing, the motor has covered 45,000 miles of operation with zero maintenance required.

Completely sealed hub is impervious to rain and snow.

Thermal protection to prevent overheating.

OHM Cycles’ 2009 models feature four power packs, each designed to offer optimum power and range for every riding application. All OHM Urban and Sport models combine the BionX drive technology with a Molicel® Rechargeable Li-ion cell power pack.

Key features for 2009 also include:

4 Power packs available – 25 to 70 miles per charge with custom OHM Quick Connect system to easily remove and recharge

Fast Recharge – 90% capacity in 20 minutes, fully charge in 3 hours, charge over 500 times without loss of capacity

Intelligent Sensor – Patented BionX torque sensor automatically responds to the rider’s pedaling force and provides a smooth natural sensation

Suntour® Suspension seat post for a more comfortable ride

Adjustable stem and handlebars to customize riding position

Topeak® rear carry rack with QuickTrack™ MTX

“We wanted to make the most versatile hybrid e-bike on the market,” DeVisser said, “and we’re confident we have achieved that goal. As the leader in electric cycling, OHM Cycles has created bicycles that match technical innovation with environmental concerns.”

Clean Green Transportation

Expanding the bicycle network is an important step to support a clean, green and healthy mode of transportation. OHM bikes produce zero emissions during operation. Each Power pack consumes about one kilowatt-hour of energy while recharging.
