New & Improved OHM Urban XU700 and Sport XS750 Deliver the Ultimate in Green, Efficient Cycling

VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA– With e-bikes all the rage – nearly every major bike manufacturer has plugged into the market – OHM Cycles of Vancouver, B.C., continues to design and build the most efficient, integrated, best-performing electric-assist bikes on the market.  To prove the point, OHM will showcase its all-new OHM Urban XU700 and OHM Sport XS750 models at Interbike 2010′s Outdoor Demo, September 20-21 at Boulder City, Nevada.

Both the Urban XU700 and the Sport XS750 are custom-designed e-bikes (also known as pedelecs) that use premium components for extra performance, comfort and convenience.  In other words,  clean, green, healthy modes of transportation.

Many advantages are designed into both models -  A convenient quick-connect battery for easy recharging; a purpose-built aluminum frame with standard wheelbase for perfect balance and control; premium, lightweight components and front suspension for a responsive, comfortable ride; and integrated lighting, hydraulic disc brakes, a rear carry rack, and fenders.

There are, however, key difference between the two models: The Urban XU700 utilizes 700C wheels/tires, ideal for traversing city pavements.  The rugged XS750 employs mountain-bike style 26-inch wheels and all-terrain tires.  So, if dashing up gravel roads or riding easy single-track is your idea of fun, the XS750 would be an good option.

OHM hybrid e-bikes are similar to standard bikes, but energized by a BionX electric motor integrated into the rear wheel.  The BionX motor, a brushless direct-current generative design, is capable of peak power output of 700 Watts.  OHM’s proprietary, enclosed rechargeable lithium-ion battery is center-mounted for better weight distribution.  Atop the handlebar, a micro-chipped control module coordinates human and e-power.

Both the Urban XU700 and Sport XS750 can be pedaled as a conventional bicycle or with the pedal assist.  Riders take advantage of four levels of assist –  35, 75, 150, and 300 percent – which sends the rider racing up hills and around the city with ease.  The OHM rechargeable lithium-ion battery delivers a range of 50 miles (80km).

USA Today

Hot New Bikes

Veteran cycling reporter Sal Ruibal takes a look at four new bicycles on the market.

Beautiful bikes with practical attributes

“The Tour de France is fun to watch, but those bikes have little application in the real world…

•The OHM Sport XS 750 (MSRP $3,800, OHMcycles.com) is a sturdy off-road bike that also has BionX electric-assist capabilities. The Sport XS 750 rules on dirt roads and paths and is also a useful campground bike.”

Jackson Lynch at Wired writes, “..Ohm’s mountain bike-inspired geometry and its nine-level power-assist and regeneration system make it a smart, nimble and efficient two-wheeler.”

WIRED Excellent Shimano parts mix with disc brakes and RockShox suspension fork. Lockable battery compartment hides space for mobile phone, wallet, media player and your other little stuff. Regeneration mode gives extra on-bike battery life. Comfortable suspension seat post. Four- to six-hour charge time.

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL reviews OHM Electric-assist bicycles

WSJ’s David Patton puts OHM Cycle’s new electric-assist hybrid bicycle to the test. Riding the OHM XU450, he challenges colleague Reed Albergotti, an amateaur cyclist with a Ridley Noah, up what he calls “heartbreak hill.”

See the Man vs. Machine race.

David Patton writes, “Bottom line: The OHM and other electric bikes are decent on short commutes in place of owning a second car to take to the train station. And any bike gives the extra benefit of a little exercise, too.”
